We all want to be more independent right? I know I’m jealous of the women who seem to have it all figured out, who aren’t worried about walking into a grocery store in their sweatpants and meeting someone they know. I want to be more like that! I’ve been looking into some ways how to be more independent and I thought I’d share them with you!
To me being independent is about being self-assured and having the confidence to go out and do the things that I want without feeling self-conscious. It’s about knowing what you want and going after it – Here are some ways I’ve found to be more independent.
I have a friend who takes herself out on dates. Just her and a plan. She goes to coffee shops and reads books, or to a museum that she wants to visit or to a movie none of her friends want to see. I think that’s such a great idea!
As women, it’s so easy to take care of everyone else all the time and forget to take care of ourselves. A me date is a perfect reminder that taking care of yourself is also super important!
They say that everything worth having is at the edge of your comfort zone. Becoming more independent requires a little bit of discomfort. I hate to say it, but I think it’s true! Going jogging makes me very uncomfortable, but I feel better afterwards. Standing up and talking to someone new, also very uncomfortable but afterwards I’ve made a new friend!
As a boudoir photographer, I meet a lot of women who are uncomfortable with the idea of getting naked in front of a stranger. But then they are all SO happy that they did it! I strive to make every boudoir shoot a wonderful experience so that you wonderful babes have a great time outside your comfort zone.
What do you like? We are all unique! I like Gilmore Girls and cooking dinner to relax. What do you like to do to relax? When I’m doing the things that feel good to me, I’m much more likely to feel independent when I’m doing something that I like to do.
Maybe you love the outdoors and the best way for you be independent is to go hiking and get some fabulous shots of the beautiful shots of the Maryland countryside. Maybe you love crafting and you can join a quilting group and make some new friends! When you know what you like to do, it’s much easier to go out and do it alone.
Because you’re awesome girl! Making a real effort to look in the mirror and say I’m beautiful and smart and worthwhile sounds so silly but it really helps. Being independent means being comfortable with yourself and it’s much easier to be comfy when you like yourself.
You can get a piece of paper and write down a list of all the things that you love about yourself. Get a good list going! Challenge yourself to get to five things, then ten and see how far you can go. I bet that once you start, you’ll keep finding more and more things about how awesome you are!
Those are some of my ideas for how to be independent. What do you do to feel like your best self? Let me know in the comments below!
"Anne is an incredibly talented photographer, and her passion for capturing beautiful memories really shines through during her boudoir sessions. She really takes that time to make sure you're comfortable, and I honestly felt so glamorous and confident. This photo shoot was such an empowering thing to do! (and honestly...it was really fun to get all dolled up and pretend to be a supermodel for the day!) I highly recommend Anne and Bmore Boudoir."

"Working with Anne and Ash was absolutely amazing! They are very knowledgeable and gave wonderful advice. Even though Anne was a lot of fun and very laid back, she ensured she exuded professionalism always. I was so nervous to do a boudoir shoot and was lacking some serious confidence. They had a special way that made me feel not only comfortable, but confident and sexy! The pictures were beautiful and very tasteful. I cannot wait to work with Anne again!"
"Working with you was incredible!! You were so laid back, made me feel comfortable and beautiful in my skin. I didn't feel like I needed to cover up or hide at all. Your direction and energy was exactly what I needed to have a successful shoot. I chose YOU to do the session because I felt like you would put me at ease and we'd just have FUN during the shoot, and I was right ;) Having finished and leaving that day I felt empowered and absolutely gorgeous, like I could take on anything life threw at me haha! I was super excited to get the photos back and share them with my hunny, and he LOVED them! No complaints there <3"
